Achieving sustaibale blue economy

blue economy

In order to enhance the growth of the maritime industry, education and training in the Blue Economy is vastly essential.

Advancing the transition to the safe use of the coasts, seas and aquatic resources of the planet

Healthy oceans and coastal environment are important to our economies and to the planet’s sustainability. They are our planet’s lungs, containing half of the oxygen that we breathe. They contribute 16 percent of the animal protein we consume and provide the foundation for various economic practices that create growth and employment. They are a source of nutritious food.

Our seas and oceans are an essential part of our lives. For food and tourism, for transport and renewable energy, we depend on them. They are a source of rich biodiversity and valuable services for eco-systems. However, they often face different range of threats, from exhausting stocks of fish to rising constraints on the environment.

FSF-IHCE Swiss is committed to continue our work to foster sustainable development in the marine and shipping industries through training and education.

While we go through a major crisis triggered by the coronavirus pandemic, the need to consider and recognize the importance of the oceans, be it cultural, social or economic, is much more urgent today.

FSF-IHCE’s aim is to ensure that research, innovation and education lead to the transition to a sustainable Blue Economy and in particular, to our specific mission on safe coasts, seas, coastlines and inland waters.

In order to enhance the growth of the maritime industry, education and training in the Blue Economy could be properly organized, and the Blue Economy could thus provide one of the best prospects for the success of a business.

Through our training and education initiatives, this will lead to the deployment of solutions to mitigate aquatic waste, including plastics, climate change mitigation in the seas, safe utilization and management of ocean energy, the production of alternative products, including biodegradable plastic replacements, new feed and food systems, coastal and maritime strategic planning and ocean management.
